Introduction & Problem Statement

Finding reliable, expert-backed answers can be challenging. Information online is scattered, often lacking credibility or missing crucial details. For users seeking specialized knowledge in areas like automotive repair, home improvement, finance, language learning, and academics, they often face barriers such as:

  • Misinformation & Lack of Accuracy – Not all online sources are trustworthy, leading to confusion or incorrect decisions.
  • Limited Access to Experts – Many professionals, like mechanics, contractors, and language tutors, require in-person appointments, making immediate guidance difficult.
  • Search Limitations – Search engines provide generic results but fail to offer the contextual understanding a live expert could provide.

The Need For OMNI

OMNI bridges this gap by creating a centralized mentorship platform where users can connect with accredited experts across various fields. The goal is to provide reliable, personalized answers in a way that is accessible, efficient, and trustworthy.

User Research & Key Insights

User Research Methods:

I conducted user interviews with three participants (ages 20-40) from diverse professional backgrounds, including a mechanical engineer, a UPS driver, and a cosmetics planner.Key Findings from User Research:

  • Users Seek Expert Guidance for Practical & Educational Needs – They look for advice on hobbies, school subjects, finances, and home-related tasks.
  • Trust in Information is a Major Concern – Many rely on Google, YouTube, and Reddit but struggle to verify credibility.
  • Users Desire Personalized Search & Filtering – Those unfamiliar with expert apps wanted better search refinement.
  • Communication Preferences Vary – Some prefer text & images, while others favor live video calls.

* Research Takeaway: OMNI needed trusted experts, smart filtering, and flexible communication methods to meet user expectations. *

Wireframes & Iterations

To create a user-centered design, I started with low-fidelity wireframes, refined them into mid-fidelity designs, and developed a clickable prototype in Figma.

    • Users mistakenly booked new sessions instead of rescheduling → Added clearer rescheduling option.
Iteration 2
  1. Message Notifications Issue → Improved Visual Cues
    • Users assumed there were no messages when only new messages were highlighted → Added indicator for read messages.
Iteration 3
  1. Visual Appeal → Enhanced Aesthetic
    • Some users felt the prototype was too plain → Implemented a defined color scheme for a better user experience.

Final Thoughts

Working on OMNI was a turning point in my growth as a UI designer. It challenged me to think critically about user needs, balance aesthetics with usability, and iterate based on real feedback. One of the biggest hurdles was designing for a platform that needed to feel both inviting and trustworthy—especially with such a wide range of mentor topics. Through user testing and multiple iterations, I learned how to prioritize clarity, simplicity, and accessibility in my designs. This project deepened my appreciation for the impact thoughtful design can have, and reinforced my passion for building intuitive digital experiences. Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue developing my visual design and interaction design skills, explore design systems more deeply, and keep learning from every project I take on.
